Pip value

What is one pip worth in dollars at my lot size, on this instrument?

Pip value at 1.00 lots

$10.00

Pip value per lot$10.00
A 10 pip move at your size$100.00

Pip value = pip size x contract size x quote-to-USD rate, per lot. The rate is 1 for pairs quoted in dollars; otherwise enter what one unit of the quote currency is worth in dollars. The defaults reproduce the standard EUR/USD lot at $10 per pip.

How it is computed

Pip value equals the contract size times one pip, converted into your account currency at the current rate. For USD-quoted pairs a standard lot works out to 10 dollars per pip; for crosses the quote currency has to be converted, which is what the rate field is for.

FAQ

Asked about this calculator.

Short answers in the same plain arithmetic the calculator uses.

Why does my pip value differ from 10 dollars?

Ten dollars per pip only holds for standard lots on pairs quoted in USD. Different quote currencies, contract sizes or account currencies all move it, which is exactly why the figure deserves its own calculator.

Does pip value change as price moves?

On pairs quoted in your account currency it stays fixed. On crosses it drifts with the conversion rate, so refresh the rate when precision matters.

What about gold and indices?

They quote in points or cents rather than pips, and each contract defines its own point value. Check the firm's contract specification, then use that value in the position size calculator.
